BREWERS' HOUSE

22 March 2011
A big thank you to the Walker family (unfortunately no relation to our John-Paul Walker) at the Hillsborough Hotel, home of the Crown Brewery, for their most warm hospitality to John-Paul and Studio A (first year students at Sheffield University).

As part of his work with the first year students at Sheffield University, John-Paul had set a design project to design a 'live-work' unit. The brief required students to design a home for a married couple and their live-in elderly parents, but also accommodating a micro brewery on the same site. Based in the pub's wonderful conservatory, overlooking the Penistone Valley, the students identified and discussed the key issues raised by the outline Client Brief in order to develop a more detailed Design Brief. At the same time the group was fortunate enough to get hands on with the five hour brewing process as head brewer, Jon Walker, was suffering from a dislocated shoulder.

The whole day was hugely fruitful and informative, fueled by fantastic home made food and the odd brewer's tipple (purely in the name of research).
