east wykeham church ruin

Conservation Work | Lincolnshire | UK
For – Natural England
Role – Conservation Architect

Working with the Heritage Trust of Lincolnshire and Natural England we undertaking careful repair and conservation work to this rather precarious ruin located within the earthwork remains of a medieval village, the site required a careful approach and an appreciation of the archaeological sensitivity of the site. From early investigation work we discovered a burial vault from an earlier structure. The history of the Grade II listed church is shrouded in some mystery, however research indicated that in C19 it was  partially reconstructed from the remains of an earlier C14 church as a folly to mark the burial vault of the Child family.
