The grade II* listed gates to Oakes Park where in a very dilapidated condition and on the Heritage at Risk register. The gates had an interesting history, being a modified set of early 18th century fitted insitu in the early 19th century. With a Historic England grant we carried out extensive repairs to the highly decorative iron gates and their stone piers and flanking walls. This included the removal of a mature tree that had caused partial collapse of one pier and extensive masonry repairs. The original urns that surmounted the piers where a jigsaw reconstructed from grainy historic photos and various fragments found around the grounds. The iron work undertook a careful analysis to establish the extent and approach to its repair and redecoration.
