hallamshire care home

Extension to Residential Care Home | Sheffield | UK
For – Hallamshire Care Home
Role – Project Architect
Value – Total c.£450,000

The care home is housed in a large Victorian villa which has been altered and extended over a long period, creating a rather over complex arrangement. The scheme aimed to improve the quality of life for the residents and the operational efficiency of the building. This started with a thorough assessment of the current and future needs of the home. The design then proposed to re-organise and extend the building to provide en-suite facilities to existing rooms and additional bedrooms, while improving disabled access both internally and greater connectivity to the re-landscaped gardens. Due to the sensitive nature of the site, located in the Broomhall Conservation Area, the extension creates a new under-croft, utilising site levels to minimise its impact on the surrounding neighborhood.
